Alma Scholars

Mentoring the next generation of young choral singers through performance and recording opportunities.

The Alma Scholars programme supports singers early in their careers, between training and full professional work. Scholars join the ensemble for concerts and recordings, and sing alongside the professional choir with mentoring from senior singers.

They learn repertoire, stagecraft, and ensemble discipline from inside a working choir. Scholars also get free studio recordings from our in-house facility, which they keep for portfolios and auditions.

Valentine's Opera Gala

Our Valentine's Day Opera Gala in February 2026 put scholars on stage alongside the professional singers for an evening of romantic arias and love duets at St Mary's Church, Acton. Scholars performed operatic repertoire in concert, rehearsed with mentoring throughout, and took home studio recordings of the performance for their portfolios.

Christmas at St Mary's, Harrow on the Hill

At our Christmas concert at St Mary's, Harrow on the Hill, two soprano scholars sang solo movements within the programme and joined the professional choir for the full ensemble pieces.

Both stepped forward from the choir for the demands of solo work, with a professional ensemble supporting them. This is what the programme exists to provide.

The Alma Scholars programme runs on the support of our donors. Your contribution funds mentoring, rehearsal time, and recording sessions for young singers at the start of their careers. Visit our support page to help.
